How to Prevent Automatic Firmware Updates in HP Color LaserJet Printers?

Printer manufacturers like HP, Epson, Brother, and Lexmark update printer software automatically daily. Usually, these updates are installed without the knowledge of the user. These updates usually give no benefit to the user.

These updates stop the use of generic cartridges by making them unrecognizable. If you wish to prevent automatic firmware updates in your HP Color LaserJet printers, then you need to disable these automatic updates.

About Hp Printer Automatic Updates

The recent models of HP printers can receive firmware updates, which can lock the cartridge chip and prevent printing. Generally, when this happens, a message like a missing or damaged cartridge or a similar message will show up on your screen.

To avoid these error messages, you are required to disable the feature, "HP update", "Printer Update", and "Automatic Update". This will help in preventing lock-outs at the time of using rechargeable ink cartridges.

How to Disable Firmware Updates On Hp Printer

Below are the steps that you need to follow to disable HP automatic update.

Step 1: First of all, go to the Start menu given at the lower-left corner of your screen. Now, left-click on the Control Panel tab

Step 2: Now, the Control Panel will open up. After that, scroll through the column on the left till you find the heading "Hardware and Sound".

Step 3: Select the first link in this section. This should be "View Devices and Printers".

Step 4: When you reach the "Devices" panel, you will see a small icon that represents a computer with your name beneath it.

Step 5: After that, right-click on the icon of the computer and then left-click on the menu that says "Device installation settings".

Step 6: Another window will open up before you where you will be asked to automatically download and install software updates.

Step 7: Now, you need to select the option "Let me choose what to do". Now, you will see various options on the next screen.

Step 8: In the last window, you will get the opportunity to ask HP never to install new drivers on your devices.
