HP Printer is Printing but it is not Scanning. What Should I do?

Sometimes it gets possible that your Hp Scanner not Working but Printer is Printing. Your printer worked well in the past and now causing a problem while scanning. Certain times, the issues take place while scanning to the PC. These issues might be specific to scanning to the computer. So, you must try scanning “from” the PC once. If that works, you can enjoy printing along with scanning.

The basic error indication says that you are not connected to the internet. When checked it's not so. Additionally, you have replugged all the printer connections, then also the same issue exists. What to do then?

In a few cases, an error is shown which says that “paper is out” when there is plenty of paper inside the printer. Printer scanning to a computer may not work because the scan to PC setting is either disabled.

The other reason behind the scan function not working can be that the complete drivers are not installed on the system or PC.

In such a scenario, first, try to enable the scan to PC setting by following the given steps:

Step 1: Firstly, open the Finder – Applications option.

Step 2: Secondly, go to HP / Hewlett Packard – Envy 5660

Step 3: Thirdly, open and find out the HP utility option.

Step 4: Next, find the Scan / Scan to PC option inside that utility. Please ensure that the Scan to PC setting is enabled.

Step 5: Lastly, save your done settings. Then, restart both the PC & printer and try to scan again using an HP printer.

Reinstallation Steps

However, if these above steps don't help you in the scanning, then try the below steps and reinstall the printer drivers completely. When an HP printer is Printing but it is not Scanning, then drivers might be a potential issue. The steps to reinstall are:

  • In the first step, uninstall the old printer drivers installed on your machine.
  • Next, run the Apple Software Update. After the driver and software update, restart your computer and printer machine.
  • Then click “System Preferences” inside the menu of Apple menu icon and choose the “Printers and Scanner” option.

  • Next, right-click the blank space shown in the Printers list, and choose theReset printing system”.

  • Finally, click “Reset” button in the confirmation window.
  • Fill up the admin username and password, and then select “OK” button
  • Subsequently, wait for the printing system to reset. No devices will show in the Printers list.
  • Now, visit FTP hp.com in order to download and install the printer driver.
  • Under the “Add printer” window section, remember to add the printer as given below:

Click the (+) “Add button” option.

Search for your printer name from the printer list. Further, click “Add” option to add your printer successfully.

Lastly, select the “Print Using...” option and then choose the name of your printer (Airprint selected by default)

Steps to Uninstall Existing Printer Drivers

When an HP printer is Printing but it is not Scanning, then one must follow the steps to uninstall the old drivers. There are two ways to this:

1. Using HP Uninstaller

Step 1: Generally, HP Uninstaller is installed during the initial printer software installation.

Step 2: Click on the Finder option in the Dock.

Step 3: Next, click on Applications, and go to the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.

  • If HP Uninstaller is a present inside folder, click it and follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
  • If HP Uninstaller is not present inside folder, jump to the next step.

Step 4: Drag the complete HP or Hewlett Packard folder to Trash in the Dock.

Step 5: Click Go to Folder on the menu bar and type /Library/Printers. Next, click the Go button. This will open the Printers folder.

Step 6: Finally, restart your Mac.

Step 7: Press Ctrl + Trash icon, and empty the Trash.

2. Using HP Easy Start

You can download HP Easy Start for OS X 10.9 and newer versions. This software application is used to uninstall your HP software.

Step 1: Visit 123.hp.com/setup, and click the Download option.

Step 2: Launch HP Easy Start from software downloads.

Step 3: Click on File and subsequently select Uninstall HP Software from the menu.

Step 4: Click Continue after reading the warnings.

Step 5: When prompted, enter the admin username and password.

Step 6: HP Uninstaller will itself remove all existing HP printer software if present.
